News from your CUPE Staff Retirees Association
May 2023
Greetings Sisters and Brothers,
Spring is time for renewal and we’re doing that with some of our CSRA practices. At our first executive meeting of the year, our new treasurer Leanne MacMillan recommended that we move toward electronic banking. This will allow new members to e-transfer their membership fee when they submit their retirement documents rather than having to send a cheque.
News from the CUPE Staff Retirees Association July 2023
Sisters and Brothers,
We intended to have a short early summer newsletter, but there’s a lot happening! Please take a few minutes to read right through.
Benefits
We’d like to remind everyone again that most dental work requires a pre-determination. Be sure your dentist’s office submits that before work is done. Also, it’s worth checking before you order prescription glasses, hearing aids or other devices that GSC will cover the charges from your supplier.
News from Your CUPE Staff Retirees Association Seasons Greetings Sisters and Brothers,
Your CSRA Executive Committee and Board held a transitional meeting in late November to wrap up the current term and get ready for the new one that begins January 1, 2023. Our outgoing treasurer, Barry Thorsteinson handed the books over to Leanne MacMillan. Many thanks to Barry and also to Andrew Huculak for standing for election as well as for his work over the years as a chapter representative.

CSRA Newsletter Winter 2022 February 20, 2022
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
We hope things are looking up where you are after a difficult winter with the setbacks caused by Omicron and all the accompanying conflict. The good news is your CUPE Staff Retirees Association had a good, forward-looking executive meeting in late January with most regional chapter reps in attendance. We were joined by our pension plan retiree trustee Nancy Parker, alternate trustee Brian Edgecombe, and CSU retiree rep Cheryl Colborne who all provided useful information that you’ll see reflected in this longer than usual newsletter.

SUBJECT: CUPE National Convention and other news from your retirees association
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
The CUPE National Convention, November 23-26, has been moved to a virtual platform. You should have already received via email an invitation from the National Officers to attend as an observer. If you wish to receive a link to observe online, you must send a personal email address to Johanne Danis (jdanis@cupe.
CSRA Newsletter Summer 2021 Dear Sisters and Brothers,
We are heading toward midsummer with a bit of a spring in our steps as more and more of us are fully vaccinated against Covid-19. We hope that you are keeping well even with heat waves, intense storms and recurring reminders of Canada’s historical mistreatment of Indigenous peoples and the positive actions we can take for change.
Have you cast your ballot?
CRA Newsletter Fall 2020 Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Little did we know when your executive met last January that our fall meeting would be conducted online rather than face-to-face. Happily we are all managing to keep well in our new reality and hope the same is true for you.
Report on benefits for over-65s
Last year CRA contracted retired CUPE researcher Cheryl Stadnichuk to prepare a report looking at how provincial health services — and specifically drug plans — affect the benefits of CUPE retirees once they turn 65.
CRA Newsletter March 2020 Dear CUPE Retiree,
With winter travel underway and school breaks in many parts of the country, we want to ensure that you have received the latest information from Green Shield Canada related to the coronavirus (COVID-19). While many of you have received this information directly, we have found that many others are not receiving communiqués from Green Shield.
Please note the information on early refills of prescriptions in particular.
CRA Newsletter January 2020 Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Happy new year from your retirees’ association. Your new executive held its first face-to-face meeting at the Ottawa Area Office on January 20th where we reviewed our priorities for the year and approved a 2020 budget.
Communicating with members
A key priority will be getting information out to members on a regular basis. Don’t worry! We won’t fill your inbox. You should expect to get an email like this one at least twice a year, following executive meetings.
